Monument to Orange

When Catherine II the Great died her son the new Tzar Pavel I stopped financing of the new city. Smart Odessians sent a bribe to the new Tzar - a few carts full of oranges that came through the new sea port. Pavel I and his retinue liked new fruits very much and Tzar's reaction was positive! He decided to continue financing the young city on the Black Sea shore.

This sculpture shows the "bribe" that helped to Odessa to continue development :)
